Description (Service) | This record contains information and contacts for those wishing to assist Syrian refugees in Waterloo Region and area * information and initiatives are developing, use 'Suggest Update' tab to tell them of new information for your community. Donate money If you would like to donate money to help with the resettlement efforts of Syrian refugees in Waterloo Region, go to the Kitchener and Waterloo Community Foundation. Please select "The Immigration Partnership Council Fund for Syrian Newcomers" when making your online donation. The KWCF will also match all donations up to $200,000. Donate food Financial and food donations will be accepted at the Food banks. There is a special need for Halal foods, cooking oils, dry milk, tomato sauce, canned beans/fish/vegetables and dry goods (beans, rice, chickpeas, etc.) Food donations can be dropped off at: Foodbank of Waterloo Region, 50 Alpine Court, Kitchener 519-743-1380 Cambridge Self Help Food Bank, 54 Ainslie Street South, Cambridge 519-622-6550 Donate clothing New or gently used winter coats, boots, warm clothes, baby supplies, etc. can be dropped off at: Salvation Army, 1-300 Gage Ave, Kitchener, 519-745-4215. Donate furniture or household goods Furniture, clothing, appliances and other household goods can be dropped off at St. Vincent du Paul, 519-744-1566 75 Dundas Street, Cambridge, ON 74 Frederick Street, Kitchener, ON (Monday to Thursday, 9:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.) *No large furntiture here please Large furniture: Lodge Street, Waterloo (Wilfrid Laurier site), Wednesdays, noon - 1:30 p.m. and Thursdays, 8 - 9:30 a.m. Volunteer your time Can you volunteer time to assist agencies in Waterloo Region to welcome refugees? If you would like to volunteer, contact the Volunteer Action Centre. Organizations are currently preparing positions for anyone who wants to volunteer. The Volunteer Action Centre is creating a special mailing list that you can join to get the latest information on volunteer opportunities as soon as they become available through their local organizations. 519-742-8610 Get training to become an interpreter If you speak Arabic, Sorani, Kurmanji, Badinhi, you can register for free training to become an interpreter. Contact the K-W Multicultural Centre at 519-745-2531. Medical support We are looking for family doctors, paediatricians, dentists, etc. who are able to take on refugee clients and accept Interim Federal Health Insurance. If you are interested in sponsoring a refugee family, please contact: Mennonite Central Committee 519-745-8458 Canadian Lutheran World Relief 519-725-8777 Provide housing for a refugee family Free or below market rent accommodation for singles up to larger families of 10 is needed.
